The Wild West had many kinds of characters, from lawmen, to gentlemen, to outlaws, who sometimes clashed when someone would start a "Fight at the Watering Hole."

Andy Thomas is not only an immensely talented painter, but also a storyteller with the images he creates. His subject matter consists of a variety of images from historical events to intimate moments of everyday life. The artist’s desire to create is funneled into the area of painting realism that ranges from very loose to very tight. Thomas’s medium is primarily oil, but he also works in watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, pencil, and ink wash. He is also a very accomplished sculptor.

Primarily self-taught, Thomas began his professional art career in 1991 after sixteen years with a major advertising agency. In his studio, the artist creates his unique paintings that tell their "stories.” Thomas says, "I never consciously ponder elements of design or principals of design…I rely on my sketches to refine a value scheme as a starting point. They also help me visualize the completed painting and consider light, painting technique, subject or object importance, and other considerations. The viewer’s eye-path is a big influence on the composition at this point and all through the painting process.” Thomas’s style has been compared to Russell and Remington, and artist says he also has been influenced by Howard Pyle, Richard Schmid, Norman Rockwell, and others.

Many of Thomas’s historical images have been used in books and as book covers, and his various paintings also have been featured in numerous magazines. The artist’s original works are in many private and corporate collections and also in the permanent collections of museums around the country.

Thomas exhibits in several shows annually, the most recent being the 2006 C. M. Russell Art Auction where he sold eight original paintings. The artist also enjoys judging art shows and teaching children and adult painting classes. He is a talented writer and published a book containing over 100 color images of his work, along with stories written by him.

The artist is a member of the famed Salmagundi Club in New York, The Portrait Society of America, and other art organizations. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Missouri Southern State University with a BS in Marketing Management.

"The Long Ride Home" by William S Phillips

By late-1944, the Allies controlled the skies over the newly liberated countries of Western Europe. But when the bombers of the mighty Eighth Air Force ventured into the heart of Nazi Germany, few missions proceeded without their fighter escorts close at hand. Now, for only a short time, the classic William S. Phillips homage to the bond between the Flying Fortresses and their “Little Friends” is available as a Greenwich Workshop Anniversary Edition.

The Long Ride Home features the P51-D Mustang Betty-E piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Wayne Blickenstaff of the 350th Fighter Squadron/353rd Fighter Group. “Ramrod” was the code word that designated these escort missions. Blickenstaff became a double ace during the war, incredibly shooting down five of those ten enemy aircraft in a single mission to become an Ace in a day. By the war’s end, Blickenstaff would receive the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters and the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters. The 353rd would be credited with destroying 330.5 enemy aircraft in the air and another 414 on the ground. These were the “Little Friends” you wanted around when the going got tough.

A raid into Germany meant a long day and a long mission. It was a grueling, intense and deadly endeavor that was not without its moments of serenity, beauty and a comradeship known only to men at war. The men are tire, and some in this armada may be wounded. Soon, with what little light there is left in the day, the groups will separate and return to their bases for debriefing and rest following The Long Ride Home.

Sizing & Pricing

A Greenwich Workshop Personal Commission
Anniversary Edition Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to the number of prints ordered during the commission period August 15, 2011 – Oct 15, 2011.
31"w x 21"h.
$595

What  is a Personal Commission?

The Personal Commission was created by The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. as a way for all customers who desire so to collect an artist whose fine art editions often sell out and are difficult to find. It’s A Tale of Two Kitties. Want to learn How to Smell a Rat? Is there anything you want to know about Caterwaul’s Catalog of Hairballs but were afraid to ask? There’s a very specialized library in Frederick the Literate, arguably Charles Wysocki’s most beloved cat painting and it’s available for the first (and last!) time in a giclée canvas edition for a very small group of collectors who order this Anniversary edition published by the Greenwich Workshop as a Personal Commission. The edition will be limited to the exact number of collectors who order it by June 30, 2011. After that date, no more orders will be taken and no more canvas gicleés will be produced.

“We’re both cat lovers and this painting is dedicated to Frederick,” said the artist.” “He was one of our favorite cats, if not the favorite. Fred was Mr. Wonderful but now he’s in the library in the sky. Although we’re all very dedicated and serious about our artwork, there is always time for humor. As soon as we came up with the idea, we knew what we had to do it. My wife Liz and I spent our breakfasts, lunches and dinners thinking about the book titles for this painting, including Cat-o Nine Tales, Rat Holes of the World and The Catebury Tales. This is one of those cases when after all these years of doing more subtle ‘story’ humor, all my more obvious puns were piling up. Collectors “commission” their personal copy of a given edition during a set period of time. Delivery of completed edition begins shortly after the edition size is determined by the total number of orders received during the Commission Period.

This Fine Art Anniversary Giclée Canvas edition will be limited to the number of prints ordered during the commission period May 1, 2011 - June 30, 2011. The tools that once helped him explore the moon, now help him put the moon’s stamp on many of his paintings. Prior to painting the image, Bean covers the painting’s surface with a texturing material. He then uses exact replicas of his Moon boots to make footprints across this surface that are just like all the Apollo boot prints remaining on the moon today. Next he uses the same geology hammer he worked with on the Apollo 12 mission to dig into the painting’s surface. Finally, a sharp edged bit from one of the core tubes is used to make round indentations in the surface. All of these come to amazing 3-Dimensional life in this striking Fine Art Edition.

First Men: Neil A. It is in magical places such as this that the soul of the region resides. It is here, in the shadow of the ancient stone tower, Il Cassero, that cultivated fields and Old World charm thrive.
“On the peaceful flatland of the Val di Chio, just below the city, I climbed out onto the floor of this field of sunflowers,” reminisces June Carey. They were tall and I wanted to stand among them, to look up and see the sun glowing through their golden crowns. I made my way amongst the giant leathery leaves, trying not to step on anyone’s feet. I was able to see, through the many flowery faces, my beautiful and ancient Etruscan village silhouetted against the sky, creating the dramatic background I hoped for in this painting. I wondered if the Etruscans planted sunflowers here. I didn’t linger, for I know the very much still-living proprietor tending these flowers could have soon arrived to question me. As I escaped through the mud, I sensed a thousand years of culture still thrived in this field.

“These large girasole are just now reaching their full maturity and are covered with a million buzzing bumble bees. Their heads are heavy with the seeds and have begun to lean over with the weight. The petals droop gently down across their giant smiling faces. Too heavy to follow the sun, the flowers simply remain facing east.”

“Sometimes I park outside the main gate of the city, and walk up into the busy streets to go to my local post office or shop for a local wine or book. There is a coffee bar and pizza place just outside the massive, medieval gate, where old men always sit playing poker, laughing and talking. The old women are never with them. They are inside the village walls hanging out the clothes to dry above the narrow streets, running small shops, buying fresh bread for the day and talking loudly to each other. His natural, artistic talent led him to enjoy success as an illustrator for many years, eventually leading to a career as a fine artist. During his years spent in illustration, he gained much knowledge, along an ability of observation and discipline in the arts. He also credits his education at BrighamYoung University as a positive influence in his success. In this formative period of hiscareer, he also discovered an affinity for tonalism and luminism. The artist’s atmospheric and bucolic paintings are suggestive of Renaissance landscapes. This passion for the landscape is driven by the never-ending search for beauty.

Cheever states, “Art is a visual language and, as an artist, my hope is that my work is not just paint on a board, but rather a combination of inspiration, emotion, and skill to inspire the human soul. As primarily a landscape painter, I strive to evoke emotion in the spirit of those who view my work and to give them a sense of place within the landscape. My hope is that I can touch the chords of nostalgia and beauty that lie within each of us, and
further hope to inspire others to pay attention to the simple beauties of life.”

Today, Cheever’s studio paintings take shape from the inspiration he gathers from his travels. Whether painting a rural scene in the American West or a pastoral European landscape, his art is emerging with a style of its own. The artist adds, “My objective is to inspire others through art and to participate in reminding mankind that the world can be good if we consciously take the time to appreciate what is around us. I am inspired by the ordinary and moved by the extraordinary and feel that both are equal in beauty, if careful attention is given to both. I thank God for His gifts to me and the ability to share them with others. I simply believe that we are all given glimpses of divinity to sooth our souls, and that each of us is given
gifts to share with one another.”

"Welcome Home, Yank" by William S. She’s close to the White Cliffs of Dover but not out of trouble. Any second now, the last power may fail. Without enough altitude for a safe bail-out, her crew will brace for ditching and the English Channel is cold and choppy. She’s got one thing going for her—a Spitfire Mark IXB of the 403 Squadron based at Kenley-Middlesex has come to meet her and weaves above. If her pilot chooses to ditch, the Spit pilot will tell Air-Sea Rescue.

When Bill did this painting, he liked it from the start. Old bomber pilots like it, too. Many recalled the exact situation, the irony of struggling out of enemy skies only to go down a few miles from the home base and the joy of seeing an RAF plane coming to ride herd. Built as an interceptor, the Spitfire lacked range for escorting the bombers very far. But all agreed that the plane was a beauty and never more so than when it played Samaritan for its wounded allies.

Anniversary Edition™

Fine Art Giclée                Canvas:
edition not to exceed 150 signed and numbered.
28"w x 21"h.
$595

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wwwsunflowerfineartcom.blogspot.com/2011/02/welcome-home-yank-by-william-s-phillips.html' title='"Welcome Home, Yank" by William S. Phillips. "The celebration is even more special this year because the war is finally over and the three generations of the family I've been portraying in my previous paintings "If Only in My Dreams" and "A Christmas Leave, When Dreams Come True" are finally reunited for good."
The son, who has been fighting in the war, walks up the steps to his grandparents' home with his fiancée, followed by the loyal dog that waited for him in "If Only in My Dreams" and rode with him on his way to propose marriage in "A Christmas Leave." The Beechcraft Staggerwing in the distance, the classiest of classic planes, found years of post-war service in civilian transport.
William S. Phillips completes one pilot's story in this seasonal, nostalgic painting from his American Homefront Series in which the change in mood and direction of the war is reflected at home as the series progresses.

"Evening In Venice" by Rod Chase

Evening in Venice celebrates all the Old World elegance and beauty that define this one-of-a-kind city. When introduced, this Fine Art Edition became June Carey’s first sell out print, issued only as a Fine Art Giclèe Canvas.

“The sweeping hills that roll down into the ocean along this section of the coast are so special,” June Carey says. “I was struck by the unique beauty of this untamed shoreline, which in the spring, reminds me of the green coasts of the British Isles.” Slide Ranch is located in beautiful Marin County, just a few miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Once home to the Miwok Indians, today the ranch has been preserved as a national park

"Callin' the Blue" by Andy Thomas

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 256px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/TAqBynojNDI/AAAAAAAAAGw/lP_Ae33YSkI/s400/Callin+the+Blue.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479334603282134066" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 279px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/S_Qil4fEHQI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/Ivy_3TpyAW8/s400/World+Record+Lobster.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473037481375177986" />
"World Record Lobster"
by Flick Ford

When Europeans first arrived in the New World, lobsters were so plentiful that a minor storm could deposit two feet tall piles of the crustacean along the shoreline. They were so abundant and easy to harvest that they were known as “the poor man’s chicken.” Flick Ford brings us, in all its Technicolor glory, the world record lobster that was caught in 1977 off Nova Scotia, Canada, weighing in at 44 pounds, 6 ounces, measuring nearly four feet long. If it takes five to seven years for a lobster to reach the weight of one pound, we can only wonder how old this world record lobster was.

We don’t often get the chance to see just how beautiful these creatures are when emerging fresh from the trap. Perfect for the beach house or kitchen, you can order your lobster in one of three sizes: 1 1/2 lbs (paper), 4 lbs (canvas) or one of the (15) world record 44 lb behemoths (canvas).

World Record Lobster
Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 15 s/n.
54"w x 40"h (unstretched).
$750

4 lb. As the player crests the Swilcan Bridge and pauses to acknowledge the spectators, flashbulbs erupt and the images resonate across the world and into golf history.

Hartough’s unique perspective transcends a mere photograph to capture not only this hallowed stone bridge, but also the intrinsic beauty of the Village of St. Andrews. With the Royal & Ancient Clubhouse looming majestically in the background, this Swilcan Bridge painting is sure to become one of Linda’s most iconic works.

MuseumEdition™
Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 100 s/n.
60”w x 30”h (unstretched).
$1950

(This Edition arrives in April.)

Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 500 s/n.
36”w x 17”h.
$750

Fine Art Print:
limited to 950 s/n.
Image: 33”w x 15 3/4”h.
Paper: 37"w x 21 3/4"h.
$225

"The Tie That Binds" by James Christensen

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 247px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/S2CNKNlVGDI/AAAAAAAAAFw/JgGU3KHCFaM/s400/Tie+that+binds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431496357193259058" />

The Tie That Binds
by James Christensen

LIMITED EDITION CANVAS DIPTYCH
Image size:
16"w x 20"h.
Edition Size:250

Published from the artist's original work.
US: $750.00

Inspired by the world's myths, fables and tales of imagination, James C. Christensen wants his work to add up to more than a beautiful - if sometimes "curious" looking work of art. Having taught art professionally for over 20 years, he likes to think of the world as his classroom. His hope is that through whatever he creates-be it a porcelain, fine art print or book-he can convey a message, inspiration or a simple laugh. He believes that teaching people to use their imagination helps us find solutions to sooth the stresses of everyday life-or get a little lift to help us keep going. In short: all things are possible when you share Christensen's philosophy that "Believing is Seeing."

Christensen was born in 1942 and raised in Culver City, California. He studied painting at Brigham Young University and, for a while, the University of California at Los Angeles before finishing his formal education at BYU. Since then, he has had one-man shows in the West and the Northeast and his work is prized in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Christensen has also won all the professional art honors the World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention can bestow, as well as multiple Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists. Christensen has been designated as a “Utah Art Treasure,” one of Utah’s Top 100 Artists by the Springville Museum of Art and received the Governor’s Award for Art awarded by the Utah Arts Council recognizing the significance of Christensen’s artwork to Utah’s cultural communities. He was inducted into the U.S. Art magazine’s Hall of Fame and is an Honored Alumnus at Brigham Young University for his contributions to fine art and education. The warm days and cool nights have matured the grapes to peak perfection. Over one hundred days ago, they first appeared as flowers on the vines; six weeks back, these grapes were green and hard, now they are soft and red. They are bulging with the perfect balance of sugars and acids. Yesterday was too early, tomorrow will be too late. Today is the day, today is harvest day.

In a series, "The Fullness of Time" would nestle between June’s "September Haze" and "Fall Vineyard". Those long since Sold Out at Publisher editions are among collectors most favored and sought-after of her California vineyard works. The long, horizontal format of the painting emphasizes the hand-manicured rows of vines sweeping across the undulating hills. Crisp highlights underscore the brilliance of West Coast sun.

At 60" x 23", the Museum Edition Giclée Canvas captures the you-are-here impact of June’s massive original painting, though only a few are being offered. A 41" x 16" Masterwork Giclée Canvas has been created as well, sized in keeping with the sister editions of "September Haze" and "Fall Vineyard".

And, for the first time since 2002, we are making a June Carey painting available in a full-sized Giclée Edition.

"The Fullness of Time" is vintage June Carey and wine country landscape art at its finest. Don’t let this classic pass you by.

MuseumEdition™
Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 50 s/n.
60"w x 23"h (unstretched).
$1350

MasterWork™
Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 100 s/n.
41"w x 16"h (unstretched).
$650

Fine Art Giclée Print:
limited to 250 s/n.
30"w x 11 5/8"h.
$250

"Saint Apollonia" by James C. Christensen

Once upon a time, the boundless imagination of master storyteller James C. Christensen created a series of paintings under the guise of an obscure (and fictitious) 15th century Flemish painter. This enigmatic collection became known as “Saints and Angels” for its similarities to the devotional art of that era, as well as its portrayals of largely forgotten Christian saints. Greenwich Workshop fine art collectors have contributed to the sell-out of previous limited editions from Saints and Angels including Isabella, Angel with Epaulet and Madonna with Two Angels.

Saint Apollonia is the perfect complement to any of the releases from this series of elegant yet powerful women or a lovely and affordable start to a James C. Christensen collection of art for your home. Apollonia is the patron saint of dentists and those suffering toothaches. When heathens in Alexandria revolted against the Christians in 249, Apollonia was beaten and her teeth were pulled because she would not recant her Christian beliefs.Your authorized Greenwich Workshop fine art dealer can make it possible for Saint Apollonia to grace your home this holiday season and beyond.

SmallWorks™
Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 450 s/n.
8"w x 10"h.
$195

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wwwsunflowerfineartcom.blogspot.com/2009/12/saint-apollonia-by-james-c-christensen.html' title='"Saint Apollonia" by James C. New England artist Paul Landry lovingly captures the familiar scene. Crimson and gold maple leaves, fragrant with the earthy aroma of the season, drift gently down. The old barn is filled with late harvest abundance. Crisp apples, sweet and tart, will be eaten on the ride home or squirreled away for Thanksgiving pies and applesauce. Pots of bright chrysanthemums wait outside, looking for a home on your front stoop, along with the first couple of pumpkins that are ready for carving or eating. The Autumn Barn holds the last light of an Indian summer afternoon and advertises that secret ingredient in the very best apple pies: “Pick your own.”

Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 100 s/n.
27"w x 15"h.
$495

Latest Mort Kunstler Work at Sunflower Fine Art Gallery, Mirrors and Picture Framing

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 140px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/SrAOaD3IWFI/AAAAAAAAAD8/SEeyIfHLTi0/s200/Duty,+Honor+and+Tears.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381817395583670354" />

Duty, Honor and Tears
Mort Kunstler
Long Branch, Millwood, VA, May 24, 1862

In Clarke County, deep in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains,stands one of the most historic estates in all of America. Christened after a nearby stream, Long Branch is a beautifully designed home that boasts an impressive legacy. The original plot was drawn up by a young surveyor named George Washington and the farm was later owned by such regal proprietors as Lord Culpeper and Lord Fairfax. In 1842 Hugh Mortimer Nelson, a descendant of the original builder, purchased the property and completed the mansion.

During the outbreak of the American Civil War, Hugh Nelson found himself torn between a loyalty to his state and to his country. Representing Clarke County during Virginia’s Secession Convention, he tried to find an alternative to war. According to his colleagues he stood out as “one of the ablest of the Union men of the Virginia Convention of 1861, but who, like most of his party, buckled on his sword when all of Virginia’s efforts at pacification had failed.”

After raising a company of cavalry, he served under the flamboyant J.E.B. Stuart before being reassigned as the aide-de-camp for General Richard B. Ewell. While in the field, Nelson wrote home to his children, Hugh, Jr. and Nannie, expressing his desire to be reunited with his family.

In May of 1862, Ewell’s men marched through the Shenandoah Valley in order to join up with General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s “Valley Campaign.” Captain Nelson remained on Ewell’s staff throughout the campaign, which eventually took them to the vicinity of Long Branch.

On the 23rd of May, the captain took leave of his post in order to make an overnight visit to his beloved home. Once there, he was reunited with his wife, Adelaide Holker Nelson, who had remained at Long Branch, despite its proximity to repeated skirmishes and guerrilla warfare. Over the course of that visit, the Nelsons shared what would ultimately be their last precious hours together. After returning to the ranks, Hugh went on to participate in the Seven Days Battles near
Richmond, before succumbing to typhoid fever in August of 1862.

Mort Künstler’s Comments

The first time I saw Long Branch was about ten years ago. It is truly impressive. A second trip this year made me very excited about the potential for a painting using Long Branch as the background setting. I love incorporating buildings that are still standing today and are virtually unchanged from Civil War days.

The beauty and grandeur of Long Branch have been preserved for all to see, due to the foresight of a Baltimore textile executive, Harry Z. Isaacs, who bought the deteriorating manor house in 1986. He restored and refurbished it and formed the Harry Z. Isaacs Foundation to maintain Long Branch for all future generations to enjoy.

Upon reading the book Long Branch, by Christopher R. Fordney, I then came to understand a great deal about the plantation house and the families who lived there.

I realized that I had not done a romantic scene since Brief Encounter in 2005 and decided to look for a situation that would incorporate both the Nelson family, who lived there during the War Between the States, and their magnificent mansion. I found a passage in the book that described how Captain Hugh Nelson came home for an overnight visit on May 23, 1862. His parting from Mrs. Nelson the following morning was the perfect situation for what I wanted to paint. After going through sketches, photos and a complete tour of the grounds I rushed home to Oyster Bay to get started on the painting.

I deliberately placed Captain Nelson and his beautiful wife in the shadows cast by the early morning sun so that the dark of the bonnet
would contrast with the white of the door. This creates strong visual interest and draws the eye to Adelaide Holker Nelson. Her likeness is based on a portrait that exists and is pictured in Fordney’s book. There is no known portrait of Hugh M. Nelson, Sr., so I based his likeness on
the chance that his son, Hugh Nelson, Jr., bore a strong resemblance to his father. I was able to work with a photograph of the son that is also
in the book. The time and the date of this farewell, early on May 24th, gave me the opportunity to paint bright morning sunlight with the brilliant color of azaleas as well as dogwoods in full bloom.

When the Nelsons parted on the morning of May 24th, there had to have been some tears. They would both go on to do their duty and preserve the family honor. There were many more tears a few months later. After the battle of Gaines Mill, Nelson fell ill, and died on August 6. The morning of May 24, 1862 was the last time they would see each other.

LIMITED EDITION PRINT
Image size: 19” x 27”
350 Signed and Numbered
Release Price $225
50 Artist’s Proofs
Release Price $350

GICLÉE PRINT ON CANVAS
Signature Edition 17” x 24”
50 Signed and Numbered
Release Price $295
10 Artist’s Proofs
Release Price $400

Classic Edition 21” x 30”
50 Signed and Numbered

10 Artist’s Proofs
Release Price $650

Premier Edition 26” x 37”
15 Signed and Numbered

5 Artist’s Proofs
Release Price $1250

Cerina Above Careggi, by June Carey

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 138px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/SrAILM55rCI/AAAAAAAAAD0/pM8wQvQkE7U/s200/Cercina+Above+Careggi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381810543243406370" />
Cercina Above Careggi
by June Carey

artist hand signed giclee on canvas
limited to 100 s/n.
28"w x 19"h.
$595

“The full name of the little church is Pieve di Sant'Andrea a Cercina. It is in the community of Sesto Fiorentino, just outside of Florence, Italy,” says June Carey. “To get there, I drove through the tiny village of Serpiolle. The stone walls close in on the street so that cars are expected to honk on the blind corners before going into them. If you are lucky, there is room for one small car. Once through the town at a deserted intersection was this church with its walled cemetery. Nearby, I saw this woman gathering greens from the field for dinner that night. She is my favorite part of the scene. I try to imagine myself getting older and living the life that she must live there. I would, however, probably be better at painting the scene than living it.”

I returned another time and the church looked deserted. The door was open and I went inside with my camera, thinking to grab a few photos. There was a very heavy scent of white lilies and in the dim light, across the barren interior courtyard I saw a table, where the lilies were in a large vase. I snapped one photo and was ready to fire the next, when suddenly, from a small doorway I didn't know existed, a nun appeared, speaking rapidly and waving a bony finger at me. Although I had no idea what she said, I knew she did not want me to take photos! So much for my love affair with the inside of old churches, I guess one should never assume a place is deserted in Italy.”

A Helping Hand by Morgan Weistling

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 189px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/SoMf4t_Bo-I/AAAAAAAAADs/Yr-vDfWOyVs/s200/!cid_761F813439534A3DA+Helping+Hand.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369170240032842722" />
A Helping Hand
by Morgan Weistling

"I learned a lot about spinning wheels while painting this piece - how different threads and yarns were spun from fleece a century ago by pioneer women. It is a very quiet, serene and meditative art form that I witnessed as my model worked in my studio for hours as I painted. This is also the perfect backdrop for a two year old to wreak havoc, and I am experiencing this part first hand in my studio every day with our child. Greenwich Workshop Artist and Apollo Astronaut Alan Bean will be the subject of a one-man show from July 16, 2009 until January 13, 2010 at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum featuring forty of Bean’s original drawings and paintings. Some of these Apollo-inspired paintings are available in Fine Art Limited Editions, many with historic counter-signers in addition to Astronaut and Artist Alan Bean.

In July 2009, Smithsonian Books will publish Painting Apollo: First Artist on Another World, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The Greenwich Workshop will produce this very limited Collectors Edition diptych and signed, slipcased book. Artist Alan Bean’s diptych portrays Apollo 11’s Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin as they erect and salute the American flag on the surface of the Moon. It is a moment that will live in history forever, and in the collective memories of the millions of people who saw it live on television.

There was so much to celebrate! We, the United States of America, had won a very real race to show which country could land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth. This amazing achievement demonstrated the collective will and capability of over 400,000 American men and women doing their jobs with care and precision.

Hyper-Realist Master JOSEPH MICHETTI's best selling images- ever!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 100px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/Sk5KbsZEixI/AAAAAAAAADI/stShgkaF-0w/s200/PagesInTime3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354298846623337234" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 100px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/Sk5KUzUI64I/AAAAAAAAADA/MLLMCaxhClk/s200/PagesInTime2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354298728222616450" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 100px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/Sk5KMJbHrUI/AAAAAAAAAC4/8a4vGws5tuI/s200/PagesIinTime1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354298579538652482" />
Going FAST!!!!! It’s something you take in before you focus on it or truly see it. Trees, still seemingly barren of leaves, take on a pinkish cast as a million tiny buds swell towards bloom. Rivers and streams run full with the Spring melt and yellow grass gives way to brilliant green. The light itself seems cast with a warmer glow, even while the nights may still hold the winter’s chill.

June Carey’s Early Spring at Stony Creek embraces that golden moment when we become aware that the change of season is upon us. Life is renewing. This is one of those rare images that causes the smells, sounds and feelings of a time and place to come flooding forth. The whole scene is so familiar and feels so close to home we are certain we have been here.

Like Above Slide Ranch or Fall Vineyard, this Fine Art Gilcee captures the essence of a single location so precisely that its allure is universal. Judy Larson® first introduced us to the Elsinore Clan in 2007 with The Alphas. Nearly two years later we meet the next generation with Brothers and Sisters.

The core population of most packs is comprised of the alphas’ offspring. This bond of blood is one the prime sources of the affection and mutual aid upon which these groups are so dependent. From birth, these brothers and sisters will compete for social standing with in the clan and assume roles and responsibilities uniquely theirs. The disappearance of a wolf from a pack such as Elsinore will leave a hole not easily and quickly filled.

Such is the case here with Brothers and Sisters. We can immediately see three of the Elsinore Clan offspring lurking among the aspens. Close examination will reveal Judy has concealed a fourth, though this member of the pack remains only in spirit. She is no longer with the pack, but the memory of her place and role within it still lingers.

Judy Larson stands alone in skill and storytelling mastery of her chosen medium: scratchboard. No medium demands more planning and precision in execution, yet her subjects are alive with a freedom of form that redefines those limitations. That skill combined with a passion for the wilderness and all things wild makes owning a Larson an essential part of any art collection.

"Brothers and Sisters"
by Judy Larson®

Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Giclée Canvas:
limited to 150 s/n.
28"w x 16"h.
$650

Liudmila Kondakova

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 128px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/SeDGsOT4qTI/AAAAAAAAACY/8aAFbUSV6vw/s200/Montmartre_morning.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323473222609971506" />
"Beauty...lies in the love thet goes into each detail, no matter how small or insignificant. It is the ideal kind of space in which I would like to live.”
Since her childhood in Russia, Liudmila Kondakova has been fascinated by traditional art, by a sense of spirituality that transcends common existence. Her painting technique is that employed by medieval egg-tempera painters. Her palette—influenced by the icon painters of Byzantium and later, Russia—is both vibrant and beautiful, with colors that blend in a subtle, poetic balance.
Born in Russia in 1956, Liudmila Kondakova immigrated to the United States in 1991. A graduate of the Grabar Center in Moscow, she also attended Russia’s School of Sacred Arts, the Moscow Pedagogical Institute and the Moscow Art Institute. Kondakova connects her highly trained background to her artistic expression this way, “In my art, the essence and beauty has always rested in the details.”
With her work in private collections around the world, original paintings and serigraphs by Liudmila Kondakova can be found in galleries nationwide.
A new book, "Liudmila Kondakova: A World of Enchantment" has recently been published by Jenkintown Press of Pennsylvania. This book surveys all serigraphs published by Chalk & Vermilion along with the artists' paintings from 1995 to the present.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 211px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_odlKSv2wxe4/SeDGRQ8-KiI/AAAAAAAAACQ/p_gT2js2Va0/s320/we+the+people+rod+chase.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323472759462701602" />

We the People by Rod Chase

1.
